In 1955 Maharishi Mahesh Yogi began offering to the world the quintessence of the timeless wisdom of the Himalayas. He founded the simple, natural technique of Transcendental Meditation®, which allows anyone to experience and utilize the source of infinite intelligence and creativity within – the field of pure consciousness. This effortless and systematic technique had been lost to human life until brought to us by Maharishi, inspired by his own teacher.
During his life, Maharishi worked with scientists, educators, and exponents of Vedic* wisdom to develop an integrated approach to knowledge, unifying diverse fields of study. He wrote many books and circled the world numerous times, speaking with world leaders and lecturing widely. In 1971 Maharishi founded Maharishi International University (later renamed Maharishi University of Management) and developed Consciousness-Based℠ education so that students could discover the field of pure consciousness within themselves as the source of all knowledge.
Self-knowledge is at the heart of an MUM education. By directly experiencing their innermost nature through the Transcendental Meditation technique, students at MUM can easily connect each discipline to their own life, and see the underlying unity of all knowledge.
Consciousness-Based education has produced extraordinary results in terms of integrated brain functioning, high levels of creativity, and academic success. This approach to education is now spreading all over the world. More than 375 schools in 60 countries around the globe have adopted this approach.
